Custer Gun Club

I'm a member of Custer Gun Club, me and a few of my friends went their last Saterday and brought a new friend along to shoot with us and maybe give gim a few pointers on shooting. Me and Mat ended up shooting my my M4 assault rifle together. First we shot at the 50 yard line and we worked up to the 300 meters. Overall we had a great time and Jon got to sight in his Tikka T3 lightweight 30-06 too.

Cool Chess Set

I saw this really cool cowboy chess set the other day, they call it the "High Noon - Old West Chess Set". it looks like a great living room chess set. That site has all kinds of cool looking chess sets, from theme chess sets, giant chess sets, to plain tournament chess sets. Great range of chess stuff.

Land Rover Discovery SD

I just bought a 1996 Land Rover Discovery for a really good deal! It's a great rig, has a V8 4.0 litre engine, that's quite a switch over from my Toyota Pickup (which by the way is on craigslist) that has a little 22R-E four popper. I like manual transmission though and this my Discovery is an automatic. Guess I will have to get used to it.
Yeah but that Land Rover is an incredible rig, it's good for anything, it can seat 7 and the rear seats can fold down for maximum space, cool thing about that, is you can partially fold down the rear seats so you can put like snowboards inside, and still seat 6-5 people. It has 2 electric sunroofs. People that know me say that the Discovery is not the rig for me, they say it's just not you man, your Toyota is totally you! I have to admit it's really a luxury rig, on the inside. but this thing as almost everyone knows can take off road like a fish takes to water! I got a great price for it, 3,700 but it has high miles, 195k. but here is the positive side of the high miles. It was owned by a business man who owns a lube station and he did all maintenance and fluid changes even before necessary! And It's been on synthetic Castrol oil for years. Drives like a dream, and it has power, I'm happy.

Excalibur Equinox Crossbow

I bought an Excalibur Equinox Crossbow about 4 months ago, and Ive shot it on 3 occasions about 20 shots per occasion. It's claimed by Excalibur to be the worlds most powerful recurve crossbow. And I believe it! I have to use a cocking device to use it. Now I'm not a muscle maniac, or even a deadlifter, but I can deadlift 295 but I cant cock this crossbow without a cocking aid. The draw weight is 225 lbs and it shoots bolts at 350+ FPS!!! Oh and the guys who make this bow took it to Africa and killed an adult bull elephant with one shot from this very same crossbow! I myself have tested out the range abilities of this crossbow and i was able to hit a 3x3 foot shooting block at about 120 yards on my 3rd try! of course I had the crossbow angled at about 20 degrees.I've had my fun with it now and I'm thinking about selling it. It will come with 17 crossbow bolts (6 of them unfired) 12 of them are the recommended Excalibur crossbow bolts that were made for this bow, the other 5 are lighter than recommended but they are my distance arrows, and man they FLY! It will also come with a cocking device, a Flemish fast flight crossbow string, the owners manual and if you want to pick it up at my house then you can even take the shooting block! If I put this thing on Craigslist or Ebay I will update the post to provide you with a link to the auction/listing.

I'll give it up for $580 shipping included. if you come to pick it up I will include a shooting
block. I'll accept a postal money order.

WAC Gun Shows

Just last Saturday I went to the Washington Arms Collectors (WAC) gun show in Puyallup Washington. It was hosted on the fairgrounds in the main building. There were over 1000 tables there, 90% of them were guns. Ive been a WAC member for the past 2 years and I always try to make it to their shows. Being a WAC member gives you great benefits, you can enter all the shows for free, you get a magazine published by WAC and you also get to buy guns in the show. If you just a guest in WAC shows you cant buy any firearms, but if you find a gun you like then you can become a member there at the show, and they will usually reimburse you your entrance fee for the day. If you are getting a WAC membership then they charge you for an FBI background check, they don't want any people with bad records to join their club I guess. But if you find a willing dealer then you can get the background check done at the same time you purchase the firearm, then the club will waive the background check fee.

Woods Coffee

The Woods Coffee in Lynden Fairway shopping center is my favorite coffee shop to play chess in, not because they have good coffee but I really like the environment. And another great thing about Woods Coffee is that they have free wireless internet, I would venture to say that that is the main reason to be a Woods Coffee fan. Just got back from woods about 5 minutes ago, I played about 3 games of chess with my best friend Jon Criss. Lately I've been helping him improve on his chess gameplay, and hes getting really good. I'm afraid hes gonna beat me soon! Anyway that's just what I have been up to.

Farewell Bobby Fischer

World Champion chess player Bobby Fischer died in Reykjavik Iceland on Jan 17, 2008. He died at the age of 64 of kidney failure. I'm making this post as a tribute to the first and only American world chess champion, a man that stood against great odds most of his causes were questionable, but he was a fantastic chess player. Farewell, king of the chessmen.

Fresh Breeze Organic Dairy

I work for Fresh Breeze Organic Dairy in Lynden WA. My job is in the milk processing plant, I work on the milk bottling side, or pasteurized side, either way. I also do shipping and I'm the certified forklift driver. The best part of my job is that I can bring a gun to work with me whenever I want and shoot on my breaks! My boss Shawn Langley(of Langley Farms) like all farms wants all feed eating birds dead, so my fun is his gain! Although most of the time I'm shooting my Colt Python or my HK USP Tactical.

Defective Marble Chess Boards

I've recently gotten my hands on some CHH marble chess boards (no pieces) that are claimed defective, but if they are then the imperfections on some of the boards are really hard to see. Anyway these are $100+ marble chess boards that I'm going to be pretty much giving away. If you want buy one off me then shoot me an email, and I'll give you the lowdown on condition, differant colors of marble boards I have left. if you are really interested I'll send photos of the colors you want. Make me an offer, but I wont sell any cheaper than $30 dollers. When I got them I was of the understanding that they would be scrap marble, and I was going to be making a sort of mosaic using pieces of marble. And if no one wants these perfectly good marble chess boards then I will go through with the original plan.

Chess

If I like chess, a half redneck nowboy, then anyone can enjoy playing the game of kings. And what I really want to do with this blog is help others discover this great waste of time! Really what chess is for me, is winding down time after all my days work is over, and I just want to relax. Most of the time when I play with friends to talk over the events of the week, and have something to do in the meantime. But sometimes against a few guys I go all out, and I'm in it for the blood and gore! That may sound a little bit extreme, but that's me. when I play like that It's silent concentration all the way.
So join me in my chess blogging adventures, I hope to post often, and get with "the in group" online where it concerns chess so if you are a chess blogger, or a wannabe chess blogger link up with me huh? And if I like you and your blog/site I'll link up to you too. Oh and I like comments too, keeps me writing, makes me feel like someone is reading all the junk I'm writing.

My personal chess set

My chess set is pretty darn cool, I picked all the wood pieces myself. What I have is a mix of chess pieces from random wood 3.75" chess sets. I took the best characteristics out of certain chess chess sets, many of the pieces I have are no longer even in production any longer. All of them are hand carved!
I like to bring my chess set into coffee shops to play chess, sometimes even into restaurants that take a long time to deliver the food like Pizza Hut, so I prefer a chess board that is easily rolled up. At the same time I really dislike the Vinyl Chess Boards, so what I use is a Brown Leather chess board. That's actually my chess set in the picture in the blog header, but since its in B&W you cant tell exactly what it looks like. Those are my guns too, the revolver is a .357 magnum Colt Python, and the pistol is a .45 ACP Colt 1911 model 1991A1. Both great shooters.

Tough Chess Clock

My all time favorite chess clock is the Chronos Button chess clock. It's the toughest chess clock on earth, I've even heard of them being run over by trucks and being described as the M1 Abrams of the chess clocks!
